Having a blog is a great way to share your message, create awareness for your brand, and also earn income. It is an excellent platform to promote your business or your agenda, as long as you provide interesting, valuable, and relevant content for your target audience. Whether you’re thinking about creating a new blog or you already have one, you are probably aware that blogging has its pros and cons, and that’s exactly what we’re about to discuss in this article.

Pros

 

  • You can earn a legitimate income. 

 

You can make money in many different ways when blogging. It could be through ad revenue, affiliate marketing, sponsored content, or even selling your own products and services. Many bloggers make money by placing ads, advertising other people’s and brand’s products on their blog. There are generally two types of ads. The first type is called cost-per-click (CPC) ads. Every time a reader clicks on the banner ad, you get paid for it (as also seen on digital marketing platforms such as Click2sell.co). The other type is called CPM ads, or cost per one thousand impressions. These ads will pay you a fixed amount based on how many people view them.        

 

  • It drives traffic to your main website. 

 

If you are part of a business or organization, each new blog post will provide your website the opportunity to be found in search engines. This is because each new blog post gets indexed on Google and other search engines (sometimes very quickly). This then gives you the opportunity to rank for a new set of keywords potentially. If your content is valuable for readers, it will drive traffic to your blog, and from there to your main business (or company) website. Blogging also helps users find you through social media platforms. When you publish new blog content, your readers can also share it with their social media followers, which exposes your business or organization to a new audience.  

Cons

 

  • A blog can be time-consuming to maintain.

 

It takes a lot of time to maintain a blog.  You need to churn out fresh content consistently, and it must be of high-quality, original, and relevant each and every time. This requires a lot of creativity and excellent written communication skills. It takes time, energy, and careful planning to build a successful blog, starting with creating a workable blogging schedule. Some people think that it’s just writing a bunch of articles and publishing them, but maintaining a blog takes commitment, determination, and hard work.

 

  • You don’t get rich quickly. 

 

Contrary to the belief of some people, blogging won’t get you rich quickly. Maybe you have seen reports of other bloggers who earn thousands of dollars and decided to give blogging a shot, hoping to make tons of money. There are indeed bloggers whose content goes viral and make a lot of money within a short period, but this does not happen all the time. While it is possible to make money from blogging, you will not have thousands of dollars within the first couple of months. Blogging requires a lot of work, and on the average, you can start making good money from this endeavor in about 8 to 12 months.
